e-VU Professional - 4.0.9 Released

Our development team have been hard at work fixing a few things with the backup and restore functions of e-VU Professional.  You'll now find that these functions work much better than before. A big change is on the restore screen - your system admin will now need to enter (and verify) the root password before restore will work.

They've also improved how the software works when multiple versions of MySQL are installed on the same server - not a common occurrence we grant you, but an occurrence none the less.  The rest of the changes are all tweaks to the user interface, usability and performance.

You can update the software to the latest version by using the shortcut in the help menu (recommended as the update file is small) or you can download the full installer and re-run the client portion of the setup process.

Important Information

If you install e-VU Professional (the server component) onto a Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 machine you MUST install the following two updates in order for your backup to work:

Windows Feature Pack for Storage 1.0 - English

Image Mastering API v2.0 (IMAPIv2.0) update package

We're sorry, as this seems to have been lost from the current documentation; we'll get to work updating this asap.

A Helping Hand

When things go a little haywire with an application (especially one that you're installing) the easiest option is to throw in the towel and move onto something else - but what if the developer(s) are unaware of the problem?  Sure they can put in a tracking module that will phone home as soon as you turn the app on/run the installer - but that's a sure fire way for someone to say that spyware is involved.

So if you stop and think about it, if you take the time to let the developer(s) know they might have a problem, you'll more often that not find that they're extremely grateful for the heads up; if this doesn't earn you some serious kudos, nothing will!

For us, this information is invaluable - myOfficeFiling runs in parallel to our consultancy so we switch resources between the two businesses as necessary - so having the feedback come straight into the inbox allows us to "see" a broader spectrum of usage scenarios than we otherwise would.

So why the little sermon today? Well, without such a helping hand from a fellow twitter user, the newly released update to e-VU Professional wouldn't have seen the light of day.  This person spent their valuable time working with us while we tinkered with the setup routines to eradicate their immediate problems which in turn has allowed us to roll the updates into the new build and installer.

So there you have it folks, be nice to your developers; it's not that they're rubbish - they might just not know about your particular problem

Registered Charities & Educational Establishments

A bright spark (your blog writer actually) has noted that we used to offer e-VU to registered charities for the princely sum of zero pounds and zero pence; since e-VU has moved over to myOfficeFiling.com this information has been omitted from the site.  After some head scratching, and a quick meeting it was agreed that this was an oversight in the copy and should be amended pretty quickly.  So, if you are a registered charity, then (subject to some T's & C's) you can get our e-VU software for the princely sum of zero pounds and zero pence!

But that's not all; we also have an educational pricing plan which is again missing from the site (it will be there soon enough, the copy needs some work though - hey only one pair of hands here and they're going as fast as possible).  Anyway, the offer to educational establishments is a whopping 65% off the list price of the software, which is a) pretty darn generous and b) also subject to some T's and C's.

Home Sweet Home

Welcome to the first post on the new myOfficefiling.com blog. The site is literally brand new so please bear with us while we iron out any gremlins (when we say new, we mean so new that we didn't have the domain name until a week ago new!!).


The e-VU products have been around now for quite a while, but with Intelligent Filing going through some changes so that the site is more representative of our consultancy, it seemed only right that a push was made to give the (e-VU) products their own dedicated place on the internet.  


Having a dedicated home will hopefully work in the best interests of everyone; for you, our clients, it will mean you have a one stop shop for updates and announcements.  For us, it means we have the freedom to provide more information on the products than the Intelligent Filing site. It will also mean that we can provide better services and support as it can all be delivered at one location - which will make us more efficient.
